“Family. It’s absolutely everything,” says Ernie Barrett, owner and CEO of Barrett Soda, as his company conducts its perfect-family contest. “Family” is also the façade the best friends Alan and JJ are using in a deceptive attempt to win the soda company’s contest. In reality, the two teenagers aren’t siblings – although they act like it – they’re next-door neighbors from single-parent homes. They create the illusion of one perfect family by manipulating photos and writing a convincing essay. Before they know it, their fishy little story causes them a whale of a lot of work when Ernie moves in with their “family” for a week to judge whether they should win his company’s contest. “Picture Perfect” is a comedy with a conscience because it illustrates the importance of pulling together as a family, while it hammers home the complications that ensue from an ongoing lie. If your family likes to laugh, they’ll love this film.
