“Splinters the bunny bone … touches the heart.”

In this uproarious comedy, two veteran stand-ups, Walter Matthau and George Burns “are masters at work” (Leonard Maltin)! Both funnymen received critical acclaim in 1975 for their roles as aging vaudevillians with Matthau landing a Best Actor Academy Award nomination and Burns, in his first screen appearance in thirty-six years, garnering an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Retired vaudeville comedians Willy Clark (Matthau) and Al Lewis (Burns), are brought out of extinction when Willy’s well-meaning nephew (Richard Benjamin) tries to reunite them for a television special. This side-splitting duo, who once toured the country making America laugh from coast to coast as “The Sunshine Boys,” could really use the money. But not if it means having to work together again!

For while they had audiences rolling in the aisles, they spent most of their forty-three years offstage bickering! And, if you think time heals old wounds, think again. When these two feuding, cantankerous jokesters reteam for their final curtain, there are almost as many sparks in the air as there are laughs. “Perhaps the most effective film from a Neil Simon play” (Blockbuster Entertainment Guide), The Sunshine Boys is indubitably “super entertainment” (Gene Shalit, “The Today Show”)!
