Rhinestone is unusual in that both of its stars contributed far more than their acting talents to the film: Sylvester Stallone co-wrote the screenplay and Dolly Parton wrote all the songs and served as music supervisor.
In this rowdy comedy, country singer Jake (Parton) bets her boss (Ron Leibman), a sleazy New York night club manager, that she can turn any man into a convincing “Rhinestone Cowboy” – even Nick Martinelli (Stallone). A streetwise New York cabbie, Nick hates country music and can barely agree with the outspoken Jake on anything. But he accepts her challenge and the two set off for Tennessee to put some genuine country into a city boy.
