Liking someone really boils down to simply making a choice.

“Don used to laugh at the funny things I did, “Rebecca Reece tells her therapist, “But now all I do is embarrass him,” she adds, knowing that their marriage is careening toward separation. Don and Rebecca’s four children know their parents love each other deeply, so they unite to form “Operation Get-Together.” But when a well-choreographed anniversary surprise dinner, doesn’t do the trick, their best hope is wacky science-fair experiment and a clever voice-altering apparatus. Even radio talk-show host Dr. Nora tries to crack and code of silence between Mom and Dad. But despite everyone’s best efforts, only Don and Rebecca can let go of pat offenses, restore their lines of communication and reconstruct the most important thing they will ever build – their marriage.

Parents’ Guide

For Family Discussion

  1. Don and Rebecca reached a point where they barely spoke with each other. How do you keep barriers from blocking your lines of communication? Why is that important?
  2. Brian’s experiment proved that people allow preconceived ideas about others to limit their circle of friends. On what basis should you choose your friends?
  3. The kids were tempted to blame themselves for their parents; separation. Was it their fault? Whose actions can you control?
  4. Don learned how important it was to tell Rebecca he loved her in the way she needed to hear it. How do you show love to your parents/children? How do they need to have you show love?
  5. Don said we should look for the imperfections only in ourselves and the good in others. What did he mean? How can his advice help us?
